First I’ll apologize for skipping out on you the past few days. It’s funny how the beginning of a new semester coupled with bad weather can drain your body and mind. It doesn’t help, of course, that I’ve got myself on a funny seven hour sleep schedule. I know that doesn’t sound too bad, I know, but it still leaves me unhappy and sleepy in the morning… and the afternoon for that matter. Only time I don’t seem to be completely zapped for energy is at one in the morning when I should be asleep.
So let’s talk about snow. It’s white and it’s fluffy and it’s cold. That’s pretty much all there is to snow. It’s falls from the sky and makes the roads slippery and hard to drive on. It’s a pain to get off your side walk and driveway and it generally just makes life difficult. But it’s pretty; you’ve got to give it that. At it helps brighten up an otherwise dull and dreary season.
I like snow, for the most part. As long as I don’t have to go out in it, it’s great. It looks pretty and it makes everything white and clean and sparkly. I enjoy playing in the snow if I’ve got a fast sled and a good friend with me. My friend Courtney and I have a lovely time in the snow. It’s kind of a nostalgic thing for me I guess, growing up with lots of snow every year. My siblings and I used to go over to a friend’s house who lived just across the field from us. He had a big hill in his yard and we would see how far we could go once we reached the level ground. It was a lot of fun. So snow is fun as well as pretty.
Snow is also dangerous and wet and cold. You never notice how dangerous snow is until you start driving. Driving on snowy roads is scary. My brother and I had to drive home from school just the other day on snow covered roads and it was terrifying. Everyone was driving under forty-five miles an hour on the high way and there were still at least two cars off the road, on in a ditch. Last year we were at a friend’s house for a table top RP when we got a huge snow storm. They had to push the car to even get it out of the parking lot and what should have been a five minute drive home was much longer than five minutes. The roads were completely covered and getting up and down hills was a nightmare.
Walking in snow is no picnic either. The wind blows snowflakes in your eyes and it sucks. If it’s snowing you can bet it’s cold and that means by the time you get to your next class in the building across the campus your fingers are frozen even through your glittens. Plus your nose freezes too and that’s no fun. On top of being cold snow is wet. It’s water that is frozen and when it warms up it melts and gets everything wet. Like your feet. And your pants. And then your pants are wet halfway up your leg because of water’s stupid unique properties. T_T Not fun, I tell you.
But despite it’s bad qualities I still like snow, as long as I’m inside with a nice cup of cocoa and a happy blanket.
